Personal Property
The Commissioner of the Revenue is required
by law to assess vehicles by means of a recognized pricing
guide. Giles County assessments are based on
100% of the loan value as of the January edition of the NADA
Official Used Car Guide and the Official Older Used Car Guide.
Adjustments for high mileage are made on vehicles with
excess of 100,000 miles. In order to have
vehicles adjusted for high mileage, you must provide proof your mileage
as of January 1st with a copy of your inspection sticker for
each vehicle.
.What types of personal property are taxable?
A. Automobiles, trucks, recreational vehicles, motorcycles, trailers, boats, airplanes, mobile homes, business furniture, fixtures, equipment, and machinery and tools used in a manufacturing process.
. How is the amount of tax determined?
A. The personal property tax rate is established by the Giles County Board of Supervisors.
Mobile homes are assessed as personal property but are taxed at the real estate tax rate
