The General Registrar - Voter Registration
Is responsible for conducting all elections in Giles County, recording the results of the elections, and reporting the election results to the public and various state and national agencies.
The Registrar also assists new citizens and our youth in becoming a registered voter in Giles County, and provides information to those interested in running for public office.

REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to be qualified to register to vote, you must :
Registration closes 29 days prior to any general election. You can register in person at the General Registrars Office, public assistance agencies such as the Department of Social Services or the Department of Health in the Commonwealth, Department of Motor Vehicles, military recruitment offices or through the mail. A Virginia Voter Registration Application can be downloaded from the Virginia State Board of Elections website (www.sbe.state.va.us). (This will require the Adobe Acrobat Reader.) You may then print the application, complete all required information, sign and mail to this office. Completed application forms are not accepted by fax. The application requires basic information full legal name, date of birth, social security number, residence address, mailing address (if different from residence address), affirmation of US citizenship and VA residency, affirmation of not being a convicted felon (or proof of voting rights restoration), and affirmation of mental competence (or proof of restoration of mental capacities) as well as previous voter registration information. Mailed registration applications must be postmarked by the final day of registration prior to any election. A Virginia Voter Card will be issued once your registration information is processed. You can expect to receive your voter card within two weeks of submitting a completed registration application.
Any change of name or address should be promptly reported, either in person or by mail. This information must include your legal signature in order to be valid. Once the change is processed, a new Virginia Voter Card will be sent to you by mail. A duplicate voter card can be requested if the original is lost or destroyed.
